Sappi Fine Paper
Ideas that Matter
Challenge: After a 15 year run that funded over 500 nonprofit projects and contributed more than $12.5 million worldwide to design-led solutions to community challenges, Sappi's signature CSR program, Ideas that Matter, was experiencing a decrease in submissions and waning internal support.
Approach: The Impact Collaborative worked with Sappi to understand the underlying reasons for the program's declining support and engagement. Through stakeholder interviews, group discussions, and an environmental scan, we developed research-based recommendations in the areas of funding allocation, storytelling, marketing communications, and impact measurement.
Results: Since our recommendations were adopted, Ideas that Matter has realized its highest rate of grant proposals and most innovative submissions in the program's history. The program regained strong internal support and is highlighted in Sappi's annual Sustainability Report.
